LAKE CITY, SC –Lake City High School point guard Jasmine McClam signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday, May 21, to play basketball next season at North Greenville University.

“I’m excited to about playing at North Greenville,” the senior point guard said. “My visit to the campus went really well. It’s a very good college and it’s in such a beautiful area of the state.”

McClam averaged 10.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.3 assists per game for the Lady Panthers last season. She was selected to the All-State basketball team and was named to the Region 7-2A All Region Team and was the team’s MVP award recipient for the past three years. She is a three-sport letterman and was named to the All Region volleyball team in 2011 and 2012.

“Jasmine is truly a great athlete that is willing to do anything for her teammates both on and off the court,” said Lake City High girls’ basketball head coach Charm Eaddy. “During her junior year, she switched to point guard to help increase the success of her team. Jasmine has tremendous leadership ability and will definitely make an immediate impact at North Greenville University,” Eaddy said.

LAKE CITY, SC –Lake City High School outfielder Jordan Hanna signed a National Letter of Intent Tuesday, May 21, to play baseball at USC-Salkehatchie.

Hanna, the son of Vince Hanna and Tabetha Rogers, is a three-year letterman for the Panthers. In his senior season, he batted .413 with 31 stolen bases and 29 runs scored. He was named to the Region 7-2A All-Region Team and was the team’s Co-MVP.

“After a game this year, an opposing fan told Jordan he needs his own zip code because he covers every inch of the outfield,” said Lake City head coach Matt Apicella. “He is one of, if not the, best defensive outfielder we have had in my time here.  Jordan has steadily improved at the plate and is a nightmare on the bases,” Apicella added. “We look for him to flourish at USC-Salkahatchie under Coach Dorman.”

USC-Salkehatchie is located in Allendale and competes in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Hanna said he chose USC-Salkehatchie because he liked the small school atmosphere. “It’s in a small town and I like that,” Hanna said. “Salkehatchie has a very good baseball program, and I really like the coaches. I’m looking forward to being a part of the college community and baseball program.”

Hanna is the 20th Lake City High School baseball player since 2001 to sign to play college baseball.

LAKE CITY HIGH RECOGNIZES STUDENT-ATHLETES

LAKE CITY, SC -- Lake City High School recognized its outstanding athletes Thursday, May 14, during the school’s annual athletic banquet.

The guest speaker for the banquet was former Lake City High wrestling coach Mark Tillotson. Coach Tillotson was the architect of Lake City High’s wrestling program, which is the school’s most successful sport with a state championship, eight individual state championships, one lower state championship and 12 region championships.

The school also used the banquet to recognize members of the 2002 state championship wrestling team. Those who attended included Jonathan Jackson, Todd Steward, Ashley Powell, Andrew Miles, Brian McFadden, Watch Brockington and Richard Brockington.

Tillotson stressed the importance of loyalty among student-athletes, coaches, parents and the school. “Loyalty has to be from the heart. You cannot fake it,” he said to the student-athletes. “Walk the walk of loyalty. Do not just talk the talk. Be accountable so that our young people can see the true way to live and show loyalty to others,” Tillotson said to the coaches and parents.

Coach Tillotson invited former Lake City High School student-athletes to provide comments on “loyalty,” the topic of his remarks. Some former Lake City High student-athletes who were unable to attend sent their written thoughts on theimportance of loyalty.

City High School soccer player Tyler Evans has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at USC-Salkehatchie.

Evans is a four-year starter for Lake City High’s varsity soccer team and also played one year of junior varsity as an eighth grade. He served as a team captain the last two season and was name Second Team All-Region during his sophomore year.

“Tyler has really grown and matured as a player, and as an individual, over the last four years, said Lake City soccer head coach Matthew Luna. “If he stays focused and continues to work hard he has a very positive future ahead of him.”

USC-Salkehatchie is located in Allendale and competes in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
